Parul Ghaghada

Artist

Parul Ghaghada

Parul Ghaghada’s (b. 1971, Gujarat, lives and works in Mumbai) works reflect her sensory and visual experience of her city, capturing its fragmented coexistence of nature and urbanization. She often uses both accidental and manipulated imagery to reconstruct familiar yet illusory compositions. Her main material is inspired from the city itself—its dominant visuals of structures and rhythms and chaos, most prominently in her series ‘Anatomy of the City’. Through collages of layered prints, drawings, and other various materials, she creates effects of tremulousness and unsteadiness.

Her works mirror the city’s constant speed and movement, where passing forms, shifting light, and vertical and horizontal lines building, bridges and unending infrastructures generate a synthetic, neon, and inorganic atmosphere. At the same time, fragments of mangroves and water bodies appear as threatened reminders of the natural world.

In ‘Mumbai Tahlaka’, Ghaghada deepens this inquiry by using processed imagery of the city combined with plastic files, nets, and various other materials. These collaged layers heighten the ultra-visual experience, evoking both the intensity and instability of urban life.
